Compassionate Communities grow connectedness and compassion, working together, to create a supportive environment for those in need.
Are you part of a Compassionate Community? We are building our Compassionate Communities map and inviting individuals, groups, organisations, workplaces, schools, civic sector, indeed any Compassionate Community, to share how you are supporting the practice of Compassionate Communities where you live. This map allows others to see you are doing and get in contact. We also aim to use this information to build communities of practice over time.
Here are some key elements of Compassionate Communities as a practice:
- Fostering social connectedness
- Provide spaces and opportunities for people to talk about illness, death and grief.
- Mobilise networks of care at times of need such as illness, death and bereavement.
- Create a culture where it is acceptable to ask for and offer help.
- Take an assets/strengths based community development approach.
