Building stronger connections in aged care
Great aged care is about more than meeting clinical needs. It is about helping people feel connected, valued and supported throughout later life.
Compassionate Communities Australia advocates for relationship-centred aged care that strengthens dignity, belonging and community connection for older Australians.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Better aged care starts with stronger relationships
Residential aged care provides essential care and support for thousands of older Australians every day. While quality clinical care is vital, relationships, community participation and a sense of belonging are equally important to health and wellbeing.
We believe aged care should not simply be a place where people receive care. It should be a place where people continue to live with purpose, maintain meaningful relationships and remain connected to the communities that matter to them.
OUR ADVOCACY
Building aged care communities where people thrive
Compassionate Communities Australia advocates for aged care systems that place relationships alongside clinical care.
We believe this can be achieved by:
- Supporting relationship-centred models of care
- Building partnerships between aged care providers and local communities
- Encouraging intergenerational programs and community participation
- Improving grief, death and community literacy
- Recognising families, volunteers and neighbours as valued partners in care
- Embedding Compassionate Communities principles into policy and practice
Creating lasting change requires collaboration between older people, families, aged care providers, community organisations, health services, researchers, governments and local communities.
